To protect yourself from getting influenza –
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water for 15 to 20 seconds and avoid touching surfaces that may be contaminated.
• Hard surfaces which you come into contact with on a regular basis should be cleaned frequently with an anti-bacterial wipe or cleanser.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
• Avoid contact with people who may have been exposed to the flu or who have symptoms such as fever, sore throat, runny nose, congestion, sneezing, nausea and diarrhea.
• Try to stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, stay physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.
To protect others if you become sick –
• Cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or cough into your sleeves to keep from spreading the flu or other respiratory illnesses to others.
• If you experience flu symptoms, including fever over 100.4 sore throat, runny nose, congestion and sneezing, nausea, and diarrhea, seek medical advice.
• DO NOT attend classes or go to Clinical or Rotation sites if you are ill!!!
• Do not delay in seeking medical attention either at the Campus Health Care Center or with a physician if you believe you have the influenza virus.
